Planning a concrete project and not sure how much you need to order? Whether you're laying a patio, pouring a driveway, setting fence posts or building foundations, getting the right volume of concrete is essential. Order too little and you'll face delays. Order too much and you're paying for what you don't need.

That's why we've created our free Concrete Volume Calculator — a simple tool that does the maths for you in seconds.

How the Calculator Works

Our calculator is designed to be quick and easy to use, even if you're not confident with measurements. Just follow these steps:

1. Select your shape — choose from a rectangle, triangle or circle depending on the area you're working with.
2. Enter your dimensions — input the length, width (or diameter) and depth of the area to be concreted. You can enter measurements in metres, centimetres, millimetres or inches — whichever you're most comfortable with.
3. See your result — the calculator instantly shows the estimated volume in cubic metres (m³), which is how concrete is ordered in the UK.

There's also an optional Reserve % field. Because there's rarely a perfect pour, you may want to add a small percentage — typically 5–10% — to allow for wastage, uneven ground or slight variations in depth. It's much better to have a little extra than to run short mid-pour.

Why Cubic Metres?

In the UK, ready-mix concrete is measured and delivered in cubic metres (m³). To give you an idea of scale, a typical patio measuring 4 metres by 3 metres with a depth of 100mm would need approximately 1.2m³ of concrete. Our calculator handles the unit conversions automatically, so you don't need to worry about converting millimetres to metres yourself.

Specialist Preparations for Timber Transport

Serving the diverse needs of our clients requires highly specialised equipment. Recently, one of our key timber trucks underwent crucial modifications to ensure peak performance in rugged environments.

The vehicle was taken to Bulk Gear in Cullompton for fitting with the PTO (Power Take off a pump fitted to the back of the gear box) and changes to prepare it fully for demanding forest work. This proactive maintenance ensures our fleet is always ready for specialist haulage tasks, guaranteeing the safe and efficient transport of heavy timber and forestry materials.

Mastering European Logistics and International Transport

We have recently taken delivery of this New Renault 8m Tridem Mixer.

The Tridem concept allows larger vehicles to access areas which before could only be done with smaller axle configurations but also allowing a larger capacity to be delivered at anyone time. This features the latest Euro 6 technology so as well as less trips helps to further reduce our carbon footprint.

As many of our regular customers were aware we had to shut down our own plant over the Christmas break and nearly New Year to make way for our brand new Wet Batch Plant. This new conveyor and mixing unit supplied by Dan Foss is state of the art technology which provides consistent mixes every time. The main difference to the old plant is that the new plant now mixes the concrete ready for use as opposed to the mixer truck doing the work. The benefit of this is the customer can pick up a load of concrete without having to wait for a vehicle. This reduces wear and tear on mixer trucks and due to the technology is a greener way of making concrete.

So today is the day that a local family get handed back their home from the BBC DIY SOS team.
Two little girls will now have a state of the art home dialysis unit to make life a whole lot easier for them and their parents.
Traveling backwards and forwards to Bristol has been no easy task for this family so now they will have more time together enjoying the things that all little girls should be enjoying. We wish them well for the future and hope they enjoy their new look home. 

We are very proud to have been a small part of this project, alongside many other local companies, by donating 6m + of concrete for the build. The concrete was delivered on our smallest lorry which is capable of carrying 4m at a time. This is perfect for getting into tight spaces as well assisting the larger vehicles on bigger pours. We have updated one of mixers to a brand new DAF mixers.

The truck is capable of carrying 8m and holds the latest euro6 engine which helps further reduce our emissions.

The truck will be seen operating from our Bideford deport serving the North Devon area with various types of concrete which will be used for new builds, farm developments and restorations.

The new mixer is fitted with this "AwayWash" system "The AWAYWASH is the first light weight polyethylene chute wash-down system for concrete mixers. The patented design allows the truck chutes to be washed down anywhere complying with environmental requirements and avoiding the risk of contamination and fines."

As of the 5th of March the Appledore sand yard will be closed for all collections all sand and aggregates will now be stocked at the Bideford depot along with all cements and the ability to get ready mixed concrete.

We will also have a greater stock of handy bag and dumpy bags and concrete blocks available which can be collected.

Numerous installations have been taking place around the North Devon area  over the past few weeks and some of these are featured in the gallery below.

The Evans Concrete team were chosen to supply a special design ready mix concrete for the structures on the now completed Cycle Bridge across the A39 near Barnstaple.

In contrast ready mix concrete was supplied for the base of the new A39 Academy school near Bucks Mills. In both of these large constructions they were aided by a mobile pump.

Working closely with our local farming community we were pleased to supply Higher Cheglynch Farm, West Down, Ilfracombe, here Mr and Mrs Verny required 900 cubic meters for their new Silage pit.

Euro 6 vehicles with an 8m3 carry capacity. Being Euro 6 vehicles they have the latest technology to reduce carbon emissions which provides a better quality of air for the rest of the community and makes Evans Transport a greener operator.
